Restricted Products
What cannot be sold on GFX, what needs permission first, and what happens to a listing that breaks this.
GFX is an electronics marketplace, and the list of things you cannot sell here is short. We would rather say yes to a category and watch it carefully than publish a list nobody reads.
If a product is legal to sell in India and it is electronics, assume it is allowed unless it appears below. If you are not sure, ask us before you list — a question costs you a day, a takedown costs you a listing and a mark on your account.
Not allowed
Counterfeit or replica products. Anything presented as a brand it is not. This is the one we act on fastest and it is the one that ends an account. See the Intellectual Property Policy.
Stolen goods, or goods you cannot show title to. If you cannot evidence where stock came from when we ask, it does not belong here.
Products that are illegal to sell in India, or illegal to sell without a licence you do not hold. This includes items subject to import restrictions where the import was not lawful.
Recalled products, and products subject to an active safety notice from the manufacturer or a regulator.
Surveillance and interception equipment whose ordinary use is covert — hidden cameras disguised as other objects, IMSI catchers, signal jammers, devices marketed for intercepting communications. Ordinary security cameras, dashcams and body cameras are fine.
Software, licences and keys sold detached from hardware, including activation keys, subscription codes and region-locked licences. These are not returnable, not verifiable and are the single largest source of marketplace fraud in electronics.
Anything requiring a prescription or regulatory clearance we are not set up to verify — medical devices, hearing aids and diagnostic equipment sold to consumers.
Adult content or products, regardless of category.
Not yet — coming later
These are electronics, they are legal, and we will carry them. We are not carrying them today because shipping, storage and returns for each needs work we have not finished.
| Category | Why not yet |
|---|---|
| Electric vehicles and EV components | Shipping, handling and after-sales are a different problem from the rest of the catalogue |
| Loose battery packs and cells | Lithium cells shipped on their own carry carrier restrictions and handling rules our shipping platform does not yet enforce |
Batteries built into a product are fine — a camera with its battery, a laptop, a power bank sold as a finished consumer product. The restriction is on loose cells and replacement packs shipped by themselves.
If you sell in either category and want to be first in when we open it, tell us. We would rather build it with a seller than for one.
Needs a conversation first
Not prohibited, but list these only after talking to us. Every one of them is allowed with the right disclosure, and every one of them generates complaints when it is listed without.
Refurbished, renewed or pre-owned. Allowed, and the condition must be stated on the listing, accurately and prominently. What grade, what was replaced, what warranty comes with it.
Open-box and display units. Allowed, stated as such.
Bundles and combination listings. Allowed, where every item in the bundle is listed with what it actually is.
Spare parts and service components. Allowed. Where a part is meaningful only to a technician, say so.
How we enforce this
We act on reports, on our own monitoring, and on what the brand tells us.
A listing that plausibly breaks this policy comes down first and is reviewed afterwards. You can appeal, and we restore it within a working day if we got it wrong. A wrongly removed listing costs you a day of sales. A counterfeit left up costs a customer the whole purchase and costs the brand more than that.
What follows depends on what happened:
| An honest mistake | Listing removed, we tell you why, you fix it and relist |
| Missing disclosure — refurbished, parallel import, open-box | Listing removed until the disclosure is added |
| Repeat breaches | Listing privileges restricted in that category |
| Counterfeit, or knowingly misrepresented | Account suspended. Orders already placed must still be fulfilled and money already earned is still settled |
Suspension does not cancel what you owe a customer, and it does not let GFX keep money you have earned. Those are separate things and we treat them separately.
Reporting something
Found a listing that breaks this? Report it. You do not need a GFX account.
